November 15- Arizona made the short trip to Tempe this past weekend for the annual clash against their in-state rivals with a chip on their shoulder and a renewed sense of excitement as the team continues to build under second-year coach Tatum Quimby. After losing to the Sun Devils last season, the Wildcats would need to put it all together in order to get Quimby's first win in the series. 

 

The match would open with ASU dominant in terms of possession, getting into the Wildcats' 22 and getting close to scoring on several occasions. The dogged defense by the Wildcats turned into scoring opportunities midway through the first half, with Kenna Whisenant scoring late in the half to make it 7-0 following the Talia Ben-Yosef conversion. The scrums, a point of emphasis for the Wildcats all preseason, began to turn their way, and the impact subs, many of whom were playing in new positions made major impacts. Late tries by Annie Hoffman and Sylvia Bruzga would give Arizona some breathing room and continued defensive effort would seal the 17-5 win, their first against Arizona State under Quimby.

 

"We have a deep bench right now and we were able to test out some different combinations in the lineup. Several people stepped out of their comfort zones and totally nailed it" said Quimby.

 

The Wildcats' victory moves them to 2-1 on the Fall heading into the 2024 season, one which looks to be promising as the team continues to grow and improve each week.
