September 13- Arizona will officially kick off their preseason this evening as Arizona Second XV welcomes Grand Canyon University Second XV to Tucson. Lock Daniel Hagan '21 leads a very young side, with many making their formal debuts as Wildcats.

Up front, the Freshmen trio of Jordan Wander, Braeden Looper, and Theo Smith all make their debuts after strong preseasons. Hagan is joined by Carson Harthun at Lock while the back row of Tyler Heer, Jack McCrossin, and Jakob Brown all make their first appearances.

​

In the backs, Scrumhalf Sid Shoop looks to build on a strong preseason camp thus far. "Sid is getting better every week and is a halfback that will push the tempo so we're excited to see that" said Head Coach Sean Duffy. A bit of experience is in the backline with Outside Center Jayme Thomas and Fullback Noah Thompson providing some leadership to the young group. Making their first appearances are Flyhalf James Karton, Center Hosea Brown, and Wings Cyprian Miller and Carter Clarke.

In the Wildcats Third XV, additional players from their 2018 recruiting class are in the side along with a standout group of walk on players. Arizona Third XV will be lead by Prop Ryan Elias with Scrumhalf Tanner Davison serving as Vice Captain.

​

For the Wildcats, these preseason matches kick off their Fall 2018 schedule that features numerous opportunities for young players to show what they can do. "So excited to take the leash off these guys and let them hit someone in a different color, and the quality of GCU makes it a great atmosphere for two D1A sides looking to get ready for 2019" said Duffy.
